Adventures of a boat guy says thoughts on shero propellers other than the ridiculous price

0:18
You know, yeah, I get it. It's a proprietary product and it is have a very extensive price tag on them
0:26
Obviously, they're probably trying to recoup some R&D money maybe. I don't know
0:30
But yeah, they do have a pretty ridiculous price, even though they have come down quite a bit
0:35
but $5,000 for a propeller is still, I mean, that's still a pretty astronomical number
0:41
I think they're great. The fuel savings that most of them have are like, you can't
0:48
there's no comparison. So the design and the way it works is just outstanding
0:55
So I have seen, I wonder where the technology going to go. I also kind of wonder, you know, I don't know about the patents and all the other stuff
1:07
that goes into that technology that Sherro has, but I have seen a similar design with the like
1:13
ribbon or whatever you want to call it. I would call it a ribbon kind of thing. But I've seen
1:18
those design used on drones and other like aeronautics type of equipment. So I wonder if Shero is
1:29
is going to you know how long is Shero going to be able to hold that market with that price that they have Because you I have seen people you know one I seen people print a similar design on 3D printers and use them on drones and stuff
1:48
And I've also seen things of people using them and printing a similar design on, you know, propellers
1:56
Obviously, that's not going to work on a 150, a 300 on any bigger stuff
2:00
But you've seen it, you know, it's going to go that way
2:04
the product is there. People can see it. People can copy it
2:08
So I wonder, you know, are they going to be able to hold the market with the price tag that they have
2:16
Or at what point in time does it become more, you know
2:21
more economical for the average recreational boater to be able to buy
2:27
Because if you can buy a propeller for $500 or you can buy one for $5,000
2:31
your average person is not going to be able to buy that. So they're priced
2:36
That's a whole discussion all of its own. But you cannot negate the benefits
2:43
So, you know, all of the research and the data is there. I mean, they're outstanding
2:48
So, you know, I've seen people that have gotten like a 40% fuel economy increase
2:55
I mean, so it's, it is an astronomical number on the economic
3:01
economical side of the propeller and it's designed. So I think they're awesome
3:08
I think they're, you know, the problem with the price is obviously a problem with the price
3:13
And you know you would think that given the ability that there is in the designing of a propeller and the manufacturing in propeller I mean look at Mercury Mercury pumps out props all day long
3:30
Like, you know, they make hundreds of thousands of propellers. So you would think that, I mean, what if Sherro would just license the technology
3:43
I mean, if they would license the technology to Mercury and have Mercury pump out all these share-o props
3:50
I mean, they could dominate the market crazy, but I really don't know
3:56
I'm just talking here. So there's probably a lot more to it besides that
3:59
But as far as my thoughts on them, I think they're great. They're outstanding
4:04
The benefits are there. The performance is there. The fuel saving is there
4:10
But like you said, a $5,000 prop is, you know, It's pretty ridiculous price
4:14
So those are my thoughts. Mel, this is good videos, bro. A question
4:18
maybe you can help me do, you know, what is the torque
4:22
that the screws of the bypass cover on an Evanrude 115, 1994
4:28
I can't find the information anywhere. Um, thank you. Mel, I don't really know the torques of the screws
4:36
Uh, the bypass. So what is that? You know, is that, um
4:41
is that your, uh, water? cover is that your thermostat housing is that the the poppet valve cover that you're talking about
4:48
if it's a cover it's not going to be much i wouldn't put too much thought into it i wouldn't be
4:53
getting all out of control looking for torque specs and trying to torque a bolt to a specific thing if it you know if it just holding like a shroud if it holding a water cover on something like that
5:08
it's probably not that big of a deal. And there's going to be an O ring and a gasket that's going to do the ceiling
5:14
And those kinds of covers, like, you know, it's not a lot of, it's not a lot of
5:21
it's not a lot. And you know, for me, I feel it. So I don't even, you know, I don't torque a lot of stuff because I, like
5:26
could feel it. And I know it's not a lot. An M6 bolt is going to be like two to, I don't know
5:35
seven foot pounds maybe. And then like, you know, an M8 is going to be like 10 to 20 foot pounds
5:42
So depending on if you're using a quarter inch ratchet or you're using a 3H ratchet
5:48
you know, it's not as much as you would think. Five foot pounds is nothing. So, um
5:56
Most likely it's going to be like an M6 bolt. Most M6s, like I said, is like 2 to 6, 2 to 7
6:01
I mean, it's not a lot. So I would probably be just tighten it until it's good and tight and then roll out
6:11
You don't need to get too wild with it. If it's a cylinder head or something like that, totally different
6:17
If you're torque in a lower unit on a rebuild, a powerhead, you know, that's totally different
6:23
but on just a cover of something and again a small bolt
6:28
it's not going to be a lot so if it's got an o-ring or gasket there
6:31
I wouldn't get too concerned about it just tight until it's tight don't break the bolt
6:36
