Outboard SURGES At 3,000 RPM

Can dirty high-pressure pump filter be why engine is surging over 3,000 rpm or injector

Yes, 100% a dirty high-pressure pump filter could cause you all kinds of running issues

especially over 3,000 rpm because you're losing fuel. So anytime you are losing wide open throttle

or you're not getting over say 3,000 rpm, depending on your engine model, then you could

be in an rpm reduction. If you have no codes, no alarms, you're just putting the handle down and

it's only going to 3,000 rpm, most of the time that is going to be a fuel-related issue and it's

going to be a volume issue. I'm sure if the engine is surging, it's going to be bogging down, it's

going to be surging, it's going to be shaking violently. Most likely you're not getting the

volume of fuel, which means your high-pressure pump, there's a screen on the bottom of it

If that screen is completely dirty, if your VST or your FSM is full of fuel, it could be an

electrical issue, but check your fuel first. I would look at the fuel system before I even start

going and looking at anything electrical
